What The Numbers Say:
Fairport has been on top of the rankings all year, but that doesn't mean they are invincible. They had a career best day at McQuaid, defeating many of the same teams. They've also had the best Speed Rating average so far. But they are going without Owen Willard, who had run 172 for them earlier in the Season. Auburn is on their home-Section course, and have looked strong over their Championship Season run. Monroe-Woodbury will most likely win the meet outright through four runners, and a big jump from their fifth will slam the door shut on the field. Ithaca was an early favorite after strong races over like teams, and Saratoga has plenty of history of performing at States.
The numbers won't be as close as the merges, which can swing the margins wildly. Compression helps in a situation like that, and Fairport has it.
