Quick Looks
It was an uncontested title in 2022, as Karrie Baloga took home the State Title in the fastest time of the day, en route to a Season that would culminate in a Foot Locker National Title. However, with her removed, there was still plenty of drama to be held. There were only three seniors in the Top 10 at States in 2022, so plenty of familiar faces will be back when the race lines up at VVS once again.
Rachel Miller (Mohonasen) is the top returner in the field, with veteran Mia Paolino (Burnt Hills) right on her tail through the chute. However, the big story may be Sophia McInnes (Bayport). She was set to be the "next best" at States in 2022, before injury side-lined her halfway through the Season. After recovery, she stormed the track in Spring, running the third fastest mile by a Long Islander, ever. We expect her to return to form in 2023, but just what will that mean for XC?
Teamwise, it's another Long Island team looking for attention, reminding everyone they are the reigning State Champs. Sayville comes back with a strong returning squad, looking to hold off perennial favorites, and new names alike.
