It was a busy day for the state-leading duo of Camryn Cole and Corintia Griffith at the Sectional Championships on Saturday.

Fresh off the Millrose Games, the Webster Schroeder pair were back home in Rochester, contesting for the Class A1 Sectional title. With the maximum three efforts from both Cole and Corintia Griffith, among a full fledged effort from the entire team, the Warriors took home the title with 93 points.

However, within those efforts, two marks stood out from the rest.

Never before had two New York state records fallen on the same day and in the same meet, outside of a state or national championship.

Even more so, never before had it happened all from the same team.

Corintia Griffith Sets New Triple Jump State Record

---

It's been a whirlwind senior year for the horizontal jumper Griffith. She came into the season as a long jumper.

Sure, she had done the triple before, earning a modest 36-feet mark the year before, but it was the long jump that would bring her to the outdoor state meet in 2022.

That changed in 2023; and the rise has been dramatic. She opened her season at 38-feet and then was quickly over 40. By mid-December, she was the New York state leader. By end of January, she was the Sectional record-holder. Weeks later in February, she has now knocked off the state record from her bucket list.

Keep in mind, the previous record was freshly-minted. After a 19-year waiting period, Alissa Braxton (Commack) captured that former mark of 41-10 at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in 2019; it was one of the few flush jumping pits in New York State.

But on Saturday, Griffith leapt to 41-11.5 to win the Sectional title, and thereby surpassed Braxton's standard.

Griffith will potentially hit that same runway as Braxton at the state meet. But first up are the state qualifiers on Thursday.

Camryn Cole Claims High Jump Senior Class State Record

The rise for Cole, meanwhile, has been less dramatic and more of a steady progression. The reigning indoor and outdoor state champion in the high jump, she has just been adding inches to her personal best all season long.

Last year she won the New York indoor meet with a 5-7 performance, then pushed to that mark to a 5-11 personal best outdoors. It took a 5-8 clearance at the state championships and nationals to medal at each -- she won the former -- and then it was back to practice for the late fall of 2022.

This indoor season, it was all about matching that mark of 5-11, which garnered her acclaim in early January. It tied the New York state class record set back in 1988.

However, at Sectionals she was destined to claim the title all for her own. Cole cleared the 6-foot bar, moving her to No. 2 all-time in the event by a New Yorker, and became the sole recipient of the senior class state record.

Here's one note of interest, too.

While the records may be falling in the vertical jumps, the horizontal jumps have seen a remarkable improvement as well.

Coming into the season with a best of mid-17 feet in the long jump, Cole has pushed that out to a Section 5 No. 2 all-time performance of 19-7.75. That mark captured her another Sectional title.

Cole too, will be looking to reprise her appearance at the state meet, with the qualifier the last hurdle to clear.

Oh yeah, she also New York No. 5 in that event as well.
