After a few months break to rest our fingers after a long and successful cross country season, we are back to write about the Winter Track County Championships for the boys and the girls.
Last year, in Coach Steve Laurie's final season, Commack dominated the Large School County meet to win by 27.5 points over Huntington. Based on how the season has gone, it will be very difficult for them to repeat as team champions. The boy's meet doesn't seem to be as close as the girl's meet is lining up to be. Connetquot is the favorite on the boy's side because they are extremely well-balanced with some top-end talent in events that lend themselves to doubling. Bay Shore's predicted score could go up substantially because their season bests from their top were from the Mile and 2 Mile instead of 1600/3200 on the virtual meet.
That being said, there is always room for an upset when the next grouping of teams is so close together in the rankings. One athlete can really swing points and make for a possibility of an upset. The teams that would be most likely to step up to defeat Connetquot are (in no particular order) Huntington, Northport, Longwood and North Babylon.
