Warwick Pole Vaulter Solidifies His Freshman State Record

Could we have a Freshman State Champion in the Pole Vault, for the first time ever?

At this point, we at least have a tie for the State Lead between Senior Vincent VanMaaren (Delhi) and a relatively new face in the crowd.

Warwick phenom Luke Beattie achieved that feat at Steve Borbet Invitational on Friday night, claiming second overall at 14-feet even.

That mark eclipses the previous Freshman State Record set by Nick Jones (Shenendehowa) set way back in 2001 at 13-6.

Beattie vaults for the Hudson Valley Flying Circus, and is one half of a Pole Vaulting duo. His sister, Lily Beattie, is a prior record setter herself, once holding the 7th and 8th Grade State Record for Pole Vault too. Beattie is currently tied for the State Lead too, currently at 12-6.
