The CHSAA is again set for its usual rumble in mid November at Van Cortlandt Park, and this year the league appears pretty well recovered from the pandemic times with strong and deep fields on both the boys and girls side. Whether anybody can prevent Saint Anthony's from earning a sweep of the titles on Saturday is the big question that will be played out hopefully after the rains are departed and some sun breaks out for the championship races.
Last year Fordham Prep broke a 62-year drought to win the boys championship with the Ram's Myels Hogan repeating his 2020 win, but yes, there was that deal with the devil to capture the win with a top six of all seniors. The Saint Anthony's girls repeated their win from 2020, and Notre Dame Academy's Lola Dinneen won a championship that her star senior sister Sierra had just missed a few times.
This year has seen robust action for the CHSAA with both Saint Anthony's and Xavier doing very well in the state rankings. The girls scene has heated up a lot as there are 16 runners listed with speed ratings over 90, while last year the number was just six.
It's back to back action at VCP tomorrow morning, with the boys running at 10:00 AM and the girls following at 10:15 AM. Three more races follow, and then the awards ceremonies are at 11:00 and 11:30.
