Summary:
This is the deepest field for S1-A in a few years, and there are also a group of individual high flyers that should do a lot of the work for the Section 1 team at States. Although none of the teams were going all-out at the county meets, Arlington won at Northern County and North Rockland won at Rockland County to set up the showdown between the top two contenders. But interesting things have been known to happen going up the hill at Bowdoin, and if the top duo have issues, Westchester's top two of White Plains and Fox Lane and Northern runner-up JJ-EF have packs close enough behind to steal a win on a motivated day. The top four guys Ethan Green, Matthew Doherty, Sam Young, and Bobby Mayclim have all had big wins and/or highly rated races this year. Doherty and Young are on the reigning champ Mamaroneck team that upset Arlington 71-73 last year.

Summary: Last year a young Pearl River team again claimed the S1-B title by 77-92, but this year the Pirates are strongly challenged by Nanuet and Brewster. The Bears have the best top two, the Golden Knights have the strongest top four, but a quintet is needed for XC, and Pearl River again seems strongest through five, six, seven runners. Nanuet did finish 5 points ahead of Pearl River at Rockland County, but most of the field was Class A teams and had just four runners finishing in the 130-139 speed rating area ahead of Nanuet's 5th guy, an oddity that will not be repeated in the S1-B race. Brewster could definitely grab the win but would need the 3-4-5 guys to pack up a little higher. Patrick Ford was the winner last year and is again the favorite in his senior year.
