Following Week of Saturday, October 22
The past week was relatively quiet as even the bigger meets such as the SCAC, OCIAA, STAC, Albany, and Monroe county meets featured ratings that were at least somewhat below the standard top ratings for teams as runners were rested and teams focused on building up for the State Qualifiers ahead.
Even in a more subdued week there were big highlights, however, as five runners posted speed ratings above the 130 level. At SCAC, Cicero-North Syracuse's Kate and Gabby Putman finished 1st and 2nd while hitting 148 and 141 on the SR-meter, Allegany-Limestone's Angelina Naploeon rollicked to a 147 at Sunset Stampede, Corning's Sarah Lawson got a 134 at STAC, and US #1 Karrie Baloga got her best mark for a 5K-ish race (3.0 miles at Bear Mountain) when she ran the 3rd fastest ever course time while winning at OCIAA.
Among the teams that got nice ranking jumps from good performances were Shaker, Brighton, and Liverpool in Class A, South Side and Honeoye Falls-Lima in Class B, and Convent of the Sacred Heart and Ethical Culture\Fieldston in Class C.
Teams are listed with the average speed ratings numbers supplied by Tully Runners, and the number in parentheses shows the difference between the 1-5 runners, each point equaling 3 seconds on a 5K course, and smaller compression numbers are generally better.
The action is nonstop leading up to the NYSPHSAA's first sectional championship on Nov. 2 at Bear Mountain for Section 9. The biggest meet this Saturday is usually the Suburban Council for most of the top large Section 2 teams, but there will also be the NYCHSAA\BQCHSAA at Van Cortlandt Park and the NSCHSGAA meet at Sunken Meadow for the Catholic sections, Section 1's Rockland, Westchester, and Northern Counties meets, Section 2's Colonial Council, Wasaren, and WAC meets, the Section 8 Conference and Section 11 Divisionals on Long Island, the slightly confusing Adirondack League and Adirondack Invite two days apart, Section 9's MHAL meet, Section 3's OHSL Patriot and OHSL Liberty meets, Section 4's IAC, Section 10's Interdivisional, and Section 6's ECIC, CCAA, and Niagara-Frontier meets. Try to schedule them all if you can.
