Outlook: The Blue Devils got a repeat title up in Class B, and now they are back down In C where they won two titles in the two most recent years they spent there in 2014 and 2015. Longtime stalwart Megan McLaughlin is gone, but States B champ Emilia O'Leary is back for her sophomore season and will likely be battling Allegany-Limestone's reigning C champ Angelina Napoleon for much of the year out in Section 6. As in 2014 and 2015, EA will be up against 2021 C champ Bronxville for a States win, but with a young squad including freshman medalist Kaitlyn Houghton and sophomore Catherine Schoenemann backing O'Leary, the prospects are promising for the Blue Devils.

Outlook: Bronxville got its 13th States title and first in eight years in 2021. Now after losing one of its top duo in Ava Black along with sixth runner Rory Denning, the Broncos have some development work required before they likely face off against 2021 States B champ East Aurora in November at VVS. Sophomore States C champ Maddy Williams is backed at the top by medalist Lux Burgin and Katie O'Hare, and the Broncos' youth should be bringing them some pleasant surprises as the season rolls along.

Newfane (Panthers)

States Teams: 1982 (B-3rd), 2002 (C-8th), 2003 (C-8th), 2016 (C-1st), 2017 (C-2nd), 2018 (C-4th), 2019 (C-3rd), 2021 (C-3rd)

Outlook: Newfane won the States C championship in 2016 and has been hanging around near the top in the years since. But the Panthers' rise to the top of S6-C coincided with East Aurora's move up to Class B, and with the Blue Devils back down in C again, the job of stretching the sectional win streak to six becomes much harder. Senior medalist Kylie Bowman leads the 2022 campaign for a team that lost two members of last year's States 3rd-place squad and needs some new additions for the scrum in a very tough section.

Norwood-Norfolk (Flyers)

States Teams:   1983 (C-4th), 1984 (C-4th), 1985 (C-7th), 1988 (C-9th), 1989 (C-10th), 1996 (C-12th), 1997 (C-4th), 1998 (C-8th), 2000 (D-8th), 2001 (D-9th), 2003 (D-9th), 2004 (D-7th), 2005 (D-8th), 2006 (D-7th), 2007 (C-7th), 2008 (D-8th), 2009 (D-5th), 2010 (D-6th), 2011 (D-8th), 2012 (D-7th), 2013 (D-6th), 2014 (D-3rd), 2015 (D-6th), 2016 (D-7th), 2017 (D-6th), 2018 (D-4th), 2019 (C-8th), 2021 (C-2nd)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Melissa Burrows (1997, C-8th) (1998, C-9th), Colleen Cotey (2005, D-10th), Hannah Seguin (2010, D-9th), Kaycie Saucier (2013, D-10th) (2014, D-4th) (2015, D-2nd), Sydney Levison (2016, D-5th) (2017, D-8th), Madelyn Dinneen (2019, C-8th) 2021 (C-8th), Sharon Colbert (2021, C-4th)

Outlook: The perennial Section 10 small-school power, Norwood-Norfolk has sent 28 teams to States over the years, but none had finished higher than 3rd until last year when the Flyers were runner-up to Bronxville. Even with the loss of longtime leader Madelyn Dinneen, the Flyers should easily make it back to States, though even with States 4th-place finisher Sharon Colbert and a decently balanced squad, improving on last year's result will be tough.

Saranac (Chiefs)

States Teams: 1992 (C-10th), 1994 (C-11th), 1996 (C-8th), 1997 C-11th), 1999 (C-6th), 2000 (B-8th), 2001 (B-9th), 2011 (C-10th), 2012 (C-10th), 2013 (C-10th), 2014 (C-9th), 2015 (C-6th), 2016 (C-7th), 2017 (C-7th) 2018 (C-8th), 2019 (C-10th), 2021 (C-8th)

Outlook: The Chiefs have their top 5 back back from last year's 8th place States squad, and they have the potential to do way better this year with a little more experience. Saranac is led by freshman States medalist Sienna Boulds and have freshman Laura Denial and 8th grader Hannah Hamel in the second and third spots, so expect big feats this year from the S7-C champs.

Allegany-Limestone (Gators)

States Teams:   1989 (C-5th), 1990 (C-2nd), 1991 (C-3rd), 2008 (C-3rd)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Angelina Napoleon (2021, C-1st)

Outlook: After winning last year's States C race and then setting the national steeplechase record while capturing the state and national championships in the 2K SC, what more can be in store for Angelina Napoleon in her senior year? The answer might be to lead the AL-Gators to their first States appearance in 13 years, but that would be a very tall order for an extremely senior-heavy team in a very tough S6-C. A win against reigning States B champ Emilia O'Leary in this year States C race has far more potential, and there are also a lot of other possible highlights like a visit to Eastbay Nationals after just missing last year with a 12th place finish.

James O'Neill (Raiders)

States Teams:  2014 (C-10th), 2018 (C-10th), 2019 (C-5th), 2021 (C-7th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Amy Stromberg (1977, B-8th), Brandy Price (1989, B-10th)

Outlook: The Raiders are not a deep team, but they have a fourth straight States visit pretty much guaranteed and with their top 5 intact, they should move up two or more spots from last year's 7th place finish. And a team with runners named Gash, Steele, and Kick has a lot of potential for inspirational tee shirt slogans.
