3. Mira Costa (CA) Coach Renee Williams-Smith 


For Renee Williams-Smith, coaching Mira Costa (CA) has been a full circle experience. She was a graduate of the school and was the first girls cross country runner in history.

Williams-Smith has been coaching at the school since 2003.

The 2014 Inspiring Coach Of The Year led the Spartans to their first Southern Section Divisional title since 1968-1969 for the boys and 1981-1982 for the girls. 

At the CIF California Division II State Championships, Williams-Smith led Duke signee Dalia Frias to a state individual title. Along the way, she ran the second-fastest time in Division II history.

Mira Costa also edged out Canyon Anaheim for the girls team title with 86 points and won its first state title in program history. After a successful season, Mira Costa finished No. 23 on the MileSplit50 rankings.
