4. Great Oak (CA) Coach Tammy Draughon
Taking over a storied program that had built up various successes since 2004 under former coach Doug Soles? Beginning this 2021 season, AP Physics teacher Tammy Draughon officially took over the girls and the boys cross country teams.
Over the last 17 years, Coach Soles had coached Great Oak to 14 state titles, had qualified his teams to numerous national team qualifiers and then even won the national team title in 2015.
Draughon had all of that to live up to.
In the program's first race of the season at the Cool Breeze Evening Invitational, the boys won the team title and the girls were runner-ups behind Newbury Park.
Then, at the CIF California Division 1 State Cross Country Championships, the boys finished as state runner-ups. The girls finished fifth.
To top it off, the Great Oak boys competed at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships and finished seventh. The girls were 25th overall.
