Girls Individuals
Note: Of all the races, this one was probably the tie-breaker that deserved to be decided on the slopes of Balboa. Jenna Hutchins has two major wins under her belt with big performances, the RunningLane Champs and the TN State Meet, both at 168 Speed Ratings. Equally as good, Sydney Thorvaldson has two major wins under her belt with big performances, the XC Town Champs and the Lubbock Christian Invite, both at 168 Speed Ratings. The tie breaker here, comes from their third race. For Thorvaldson, that next best race was her State Meet, where she clocked a 164 Speed Rating to win. For Hutchins, her major performance came from a non-major win, her TN Regional, where she stormed through the beginnings of a hurricane to clock a 170.77 Speed Rating, the top for the year.
Much has been said about Hutchins 5K time, but its widely known that the RunningLane Course was specifically designed to run fast. Plug in Katelyn Tuohy's Top Rating from last year, her 177 from Holmdel Park, and you have her running 15:26.93 for comparison. But Hutchins almost breaking 17mins in the conditions she did, finishing second in the Boys/Girls merge only to the Boys State Runner-Up from 2019, is the most impressive performance of the year.
The Tuohy/Hutchins race may be decided soon enough, as Hutchins bowed out of the last weekend of XC to prep for an attack on Tuohy's Indoor 5K Record in the near future.
