Tale of the Beast

Shea Weilbaker dished out a Beastly margin of victory at 3.36 in 2018, and then in 2019 he ran still faster to keep St. Anthonys' Matthew Payamps from doing an even bigger Beast and holding the margin to 2.53. Ben Petrella's big margin in 2016 came against Carthage's Noah Affolder, so that's a real Beast. And talking about keeping things close, the meet record for States was set way back in 1987 by Clarke's Dan Middleman at 8:52.6, but there was a Garden City guy named TJ McArdle who kept the victory margin within bounds at 2.6. The two were 8th and 11th at Foot Locker \ Kinney in December 1986. The tiny .02 margin for a States goes back the the same year that the biggest margin was set for the 1600m, as Burnt Hills' Otis Ubriaco beat out that guy from Greene, Chad Noelle, in 2010. So Noelle was the runner-up for the biggest margin in the 1600m and smallest margin in the 3200m in the same year.
