D-2nd) (2018, C-3rd), Nina Sgambelluri (2018, C-7th), Teagan Wright (2018, C-9th), Emma Cronin (2018, C-10th)
Last Year's Summary: 7th in NXR-NY, 1st in States C, 1st in Sectionals
RosterBrynne Wright | 12 | 1 | 3 | 127 |
Nina Sgambelluri | 10 | 2 | 7 | 123 |
Emma Cronin | 12 | 3 | 10 | 113 |
Teagan Wright | 9 | 4 | 9 | 111 |
Quinn Collins | 12 | 7 | 47 | 94 |
Emily Skiff | 10 | 8 | 43 | 94 |
Brooke Wright | 12 | 13 | 31 | 91 |
Outlook: Greenwich is a lock to win its 16th straight Sectional title and is an overwhelming favorite to repeat at States with a mainly intact and senior-heavy squad. Brynne Wright, Emma Cronin, Quinn Collins, and Brooke Wright will make a final go-round, and Nina Sgambelluri, Teagan Wright, and Emily Skiff get set to keep the Witches zooming high in the future.
Camden (Blue Devils)
Section 3
States Teams:
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Elizabeth Lucason (2016, B-4th) (2018, B-5th)
Last Year's Summary: 10th in NXR-NY, 2nd in Sectionals B
RosterElizabeth Lucason | 10 | 2 | 5 | 131 |
Morgan Lucason | 12 | 6 | 38 | 106 |
Haley Hinds | 12 | 4 | 44 | 96 |
Catherine Seidl | 12 | 9 |
| 89 |
Sydney Coleman | 10 | 22 |
| 54 |
Outlook: Camden led CBA Syracuse through four places in the S3-B race by 4 points but ended up losing by 5. Now down in Class C and with everyone back, the Blue Devils will need to find a little more depth at the back to fight off South Lewis and Clinton in S3-C and maybe make a run at Greenwich for the States title. Elizabeth Lucason returns at the front for Camden and she is the favorite for the States individual title.
South Lewis (Falcons)
Section 3
States Teams: 1980 (C-7th), 2012 (D-3rd), 2016 (D-3rd) (2017, D-1st)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Courtney
Beadore (2002, C-6th), Liz Ludovici (2002, C-8th), Victoria Campanian
(2008, D-5th) (2009, D-2nd) (2010, C-3rd) (2012, D-6th), Hannah Ielfield
(2017, D-3rd) (2018, D-3rd), Hali Ielfield (2017, D-5th), Lexi Bernard (2017, D-9th) (2018, D-4th), Brynn Bernard (2018, D-4th)
Last Year's Summary: 2nd in Sectionals D
RosterLexi Bernard | 10 | 2 | 2 | 128 |
Hannah Ielfield | 11 | 3 | 3 | 123 |
Brynn Bernard | 8 | 5 | 4 | 116 |
Abby Durgan | 11 | 18 |
| 68 |
Chloe Seller | 11 | 42 |
| 39 |
Outlook:
South Lewis has one of the best top trios in the state with Lexi Bernard, Hannah Ielfield, and Brynn Bernard on top for 2019 and next year. The States D champ in 2017, the Falcons lost a 47-48 Sectional duel with States champ Tully because of a lack of depth. With Morgan Feisthamel gone from last year's small team, South Lewis will need to pull in some more young legs for the battle with Camden in the new S3-C environs. Brynn Bernard ran in the NXR-NY Open race last year as a 7th grader and won it.
Saranac (Chiefs)
Section 7
States Teams: 1992
(C-10th), 1994 (C-11th), 1996 (C-8th), 1997 C-11th), 1999 (C-6th), 2000 (B-8th),
2001 (B-9th), 2011 (C-10th), 2012 (C-10th), 2013 (C-10th), 2014 (C-9th),
2015 (C-6th), 2016 (C-7th), 2017 (C-7th) 2018 (C-8th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Rachael Woodruff (C-4th)
Last Year's Summary: 8th in States C, 1st in Sectionals
RosterRachael Woodruff | 12 | 1 | 4 | 123 |
Elise Lepage | 12 | 5 | 69 | 90 |
Mackenzie Converse | 10 | 3 | 51 | 90 |
Danielle Borner | 10 | 14 | 108 | 61 |
Angelena Fay | 11 | 16 | 107 | 59 |
Kaelyn Fay | 10 | 20 |
| 52 |
Sarique Moore | 12 | 18 | 122 | 50 |
Outlook: Rachael Woodruff ran near the top at States last year, ending up in 4th and inserting herself among the favorites for this year's race on Section 7's home grounds. The Chiefs should win S7-C easily, but to move up from last year's States 8th place at Sunken Meadow after being picked for 2nd and running a minute behind their pace at Sectionals, they must be ready to fly at Plattsburgh.
Lansing (Bobcats)
Section 4
States Teams: 2003 (C-7th), 2018 (C-6th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Kylee Jordan (2002, C-7th) (2003, C-3rd)
Last Year's Summary: 6th in States C, 1st in Sectionals
RosterCatie Eisenhut | 12 | 2 | 39 | 104 |
Emmaline Jackson | 11 | 4 | 27 | 103 |
Kinsley Jacobs | 9 | 5 | 25 | 96 |
Teresa Garcia | 12 | 14 | 98 | 65 |
Hana Thibault | 11 | 22 | 119 | 43 |
Outlook: The Bobcats return five of their top 6 from last year's States team led by the solid trio of Catie Eisenhut, Emmeline Jackson, and Kinsley Jacobs. Lansing could get a challenge from teams like Waverly and Trumansburg in S4-C, and with some added depth there could be a boost from last years States 6th place.
Mattituck (Tuckers)
Section 11
States Teams: 2006 (C-10th), 2012 (C-4th), 2013 (C-4th), 2014 (C-7th), 2015 (C-7th), 2016 (C-5th), 2017 (C-9th), 2018 (C-5th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Melanie Pfennig (2015, C-9th), Ava Vaccarella (2018, C-8th)
Last Year's Summary: 5th in States C, 1st in Sectionals
RosterAva Vaccarella | 9 | 1 | 8 | 110 |
Payton Maddaloni | 12 | 2 | 38 | 88 |
Isabella Masoti | 11 | 8 | 56 | 73 |
Kate Schuch | 10 | 6 | 84 | 66 |
Kylie Conroy | 11 | 10 | 92 | 64 |
Outlook: Projected to finish 9th at States last year after appearing a bit Tuckered in the Sectional race against minimal competition, Mattituck ran smartly on what is basically its home course to blast up to 5th. The same top five are back for a sure shot at the Tuckers' 8th straight Sectional title, and they will then see if they can race on the flats as well as they climb the hills.
Addison (Knights)
Section 1
States Teams: 1993 (C-7th), 1994 (C-7th), 1995 (C-8th), 1996 (C-7th), 2014 (D-5th), 2015 (D-4th), 2017 (D-4th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Anne Thompson (2001, C-9th)
Last Year's Summary: 4th in Sectionals
RosterFaith Skowvron | 9 | 4 | 30 | 96 |
Isabella Painter | 12 | 12 |
| 83 |
Sarah Lawson | 8 |
|
| 80 |
Sarah Lyons | 9 | 15 |
| 79 |
Vanessa Ryhal | 12 | 26 |
| 58 |
Outlook:
The Knights finished 4th in S5-C after winning a title in S5-D in 2017, and like many of the S5-C teams they lost some of their depth to graduation. We're going to take a stab and say that the addition of one more newbie behind last year's States finalist rookie Faith Skowvron could make the difference and turn Addison into a contender.
Newfane (Panthers)
Section 9
States Teams: 1982 (B-3rd), 2002 (C-8th), 2003 (C-8th), 2016 (C-1st), 2017 (C-2nd), 2018 (C-4th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Sue Russell (1980, B-9th), Kim Wood (1983, B-2nd), Lacey Watkins (2001, C-3rd), Kimberly Goerss (2017, C-4th) (2018, C-6th)
Last Year's Summary: 4th in States C, 1st in Sectionals
RosterCatalina Ersing | 9 | 21 | 50 | 86 |
Vanessa Burkard | 12 | 13 | 66 | 81 |
Lydia Chunco | 12 | 16 | 68 | 80 |
Marina Ersing | 11 | 23 | 85 | 72 |
Leah Siegmann | 10 | 20 | 94 | 72 |
Shelby Nerber | 10 |
|
| 59 |
Outlook: 2016 States C champ still has a solid team and will remain a small favorite to win its 4th straight title in S6-C, but the graduation of longtime standout Kimberly Goerss removes the luster at the top from a team that got up for a 4th at States last year. A showdown with last year's runner-up Silver Creek seems imminent.
