A Quick Look At New York's Sub-4 Minute Milers

Last August, Eric Holt became the 43rd New Yorker to break the 4-Minute Mile.  (Watch Race) Winning the 1600m his senior year of High School at States, Holt went on to Binghamton University, then to race Post-Collegiately with Garden State Track Club.  Coming into the race, he held a Personal Best of 4:00.65, but powered past the field to win in the last 15m, running in typical Eric Holt fashion for those that remember his HS exploits.

Holt was the most recent addition to a list of who's-who in New York running history.  Byron Dyce was the first African-American to break the 4-minute Mile.  Matt Centrowitz would set the American Record at 5000m.  Lopez Lomong was Team USA's Flag Bearer at the 2008 Olympic Games.  The pair of Jesse Garn/Ryan Manahan would combine to make Marcellus HS one of the only schools to graduate more than one Sub-4 Miler.  Now, with Holt's inclusion joining Mike Stahr, Carmel can add their name to that list as well.

Check out the full list, in the order the mark was first achieved, below.

After careful research, we believe this list to be 95% complete.  If you note an athlete we left off, please reach out and let us know at kbrazeil@milesplit.com.
