This race could be a highlight of the meet or it could fizzle out.
There are a couple X-Factor's here. First, despite having Mason
Gatewood and Matt Payamps both qualify as individuals, as they did
Indoors, Saint Anthony's is focusing their sole efforts on this single
race. Their biggest rivals, Northport, is doing as they did Indoors as
well. Elijah Claiborne is the top seed in both the 800m and 1600m.
Isaiah Claiborne, however, has a much different journey. He is listed
here as a member of the relay, yet also has a race in Shoreline,
Washington on Friday night. Will he attempt to the 800m at Brooks PR,
then fly straight into Syracuse, and run the 4x800m final at States?
It's possible, but it may have an effect on his race.
Bethlehem is another team under 7:50, but they need a big jump to stay in the race here. Saint A's went 7:45.30 to win Indoors, and all signs point to them dropping a few seconds here. | |||||
