It was a marquee night for the Central Square senior, as Joe Weaver continued his upheaval of the record books at Cicero-North Syracuse. At the Section 3 State Qualifier, Weaver first hit a new personal best, clearing 15-9 on his first attempt. Moving the bar up, the streak began to roll, as he cleared 16-0 on his first attempt as well. Moving up to 16-3, which would be a new State Leader, Weaver took a miss on his first attempt, but came back with a strong clearance (shown above) on his second attempt. He would take three misses at 16-6.
The mark improves upon his own Section 3 Record from a week ago, where he jumped 15-7 at Section 3 Class AA. That mark erased the former Section 3 Record held by Jeff Willis (Canastota) set at 15-6 back in 2009. It also makes Weaver NY #1 in the event, surpassing Charles Crispi (Farrell) with his 16-1. However, Crispi, who is the Indoor State Champion, went 16-5.25 at Indoor Nationals, and will provide ample competition at States.
For now, Weaver is the king of the CNS vault pits. And he'll be able to defend his turf next week, as the State Meet comes to him.
