Well, that didn't take long.
It's the first weekend of Indoor Track here in New York, and we've already risen to new heights. Literally. Senior Johannes Stromhaug (Vestal) now joins his sister, Kari (Vestal '15), as the Section 4 Record Holder in the Pole Vault. At this weekend's Section 4 Large Schools Meet, held at SUNY Cortland, Stromhaug eclipsed a mark that had been on the books since 1980.
Back then, it was Tom Yelverton (Susquehanna Valley) who was setting the record at 15-4.75 . Yelverton would go on to win the Indoor State Meet that year with a 15-1 clearance at Cornell's Barton Hall. Stromhaug cleared 15-5 on Saturday, to erase that mark. The clearance pushes Stromhaug onto the NY All-Time Top 25 list, tied at 24th. His sister is NY-21 All-Time Indoors, with her 12-3 clearance.
Stromhaug is the second returner in the Pole Vault for NY this year. Colin Duignan (Fordham Prep) cleared 15-6 at the Indoor State Meet last winter, to take second. The pair are expected to exchange top billing in the event all season.
