Saratoga Girls Go for Title in Class A (2004 Class AA Winner)
Nicole Blood and Lindsey Ferguson will not be back for another CV States for Saratoga again, but Kelsey Chmiel will be leading the Blue Streaks in 2016.
The Skinny: The Blue Streaks' run to 14 States titles that began in 1987 and really revved up between 1996 to 2005 when they won 9 out of 10 crowns was by most accounts at its height in 2004 when Saratoga not only won the NXN (actually NTN back then) championship but also sent Nicole Blood, Lindsey Ferguson, Hannah Davidson, and Caitlin Lane to the Foot Locker Nationals at a time when that was a possible double for NY runners. At 2005 States in Queensbury, however, a pesky little team called Fayetteville-Manlius made an appearance at States and finished 6th. From 2006 to the present, the Hornets have stood in the way of a repeat for Saratoga, and the Blue Streaks have finished as the runner-up for nine straight years. Maybe CV will be the lucky charm that Saratoga needs to get back on top, but it is a big challenge.
