This fall, we'll be viewing the New York Cross Country Season through the eyes of its' competitors.  We've asked one girl and one boys to blog about their season.  Through the triumphs and tribulations of training, racing, and everything in between, you'll be able to read what it's like to run in the Empire State.

For the boys, Noah Carey, a senior at Guilderland High School, will be blogging for us.  Noah is the States Top Returner at the New York State Meet, looking to improve on last year's performance.  He races in super competitive Subrurban Council, and will be one of the top athletes across any classification in the Albany.  Noah Carey will be periodically joined his season by sophomore teammate Noah Tindale, and the two comprise what they call, the "@NoahandNoahShow"

Noah Carey Bio

I started running cross country in 8th grade. I got a letter from the team in 7th grade saying to try out. I wasn't going to at first but I thought why not and ended up being pretty good at it! In the winter you can catch me repping the GMS Storm hockey jersey. I have been playing since I was 7 and have been on our high school team since 9th grade. If only I was as good at hockey as I was at running. Some interesting facts about me is my birthday is on valentine's day. Having your mom post "Happy birthday to my valentine's baby" is a nice benefit from that. I am also a diehard Red Sox fan and I refuse to die until the Bills win a superbowl.

Summer training:

Summer training went really well for once. I took 2 full weeks off after NBN. I eased into it for my first week back and slowly increased my mileage each week. Had a minor set back with a sprained ankle, but it was nothing a little ice and aqua jogging couldn't fix. During the week I would do a hill workout on Tuesday's, track workout Thursdays and a long run on Saturdays. Sundays are my no run days and in between was my recovery runs. Our team also hit the weight room a couple times a week for strength training. Overall it was a pretty good summer of training.

Week 1: My first week of official practices had some ups and downs. Got some easy runs in with a hill workout early in the week. Second half of the week our team went away to a camp for 4 days. It was a lot of fun and we get some solid training. However I managed to sprain my ankle (yes again). I didn't let that dampen my spirits however and got some solid water workouts in. Also did a lot of team bonding activities which is always a hoot. Overall it was a fun first week.
