HS relays set for Reebok Grand Prix

NEW YORK, NY (May 28) – Twenty-five high-school relay teams are set to compete in the Boys’ 4x100-Meter Relay, 4x400-Meter Relay and 4x800-Meter Relay at the Reebok Grand Prix on Saturday, organizers announced today.

The relay teams will compete on the same track as some of the top Olympic-caliber athletes in the world. Among the highlights will be 100-meter matchups between triple World Champion Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt, who recently became the second-fastest man in history; and Veronica Campbell of Jamaica and American Lauryn Williams in a rematch of their World Championship 100-meter photo finish. Also on tap will be Chinese hurdling sensation Liu Xiang; 400-meter American Record-holder Sanya Richards; and Jenn Stuczynski, the most-exciting pole vaulter in the world this season.

The Reebok Grand Prix will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Icahn Stadium. New bleacher seats, along the backstretch with clear views of the finish line, will be available for $15. Set to compete in the Boys’ 4x100-Meter Relay are Sheepshead Bay High School in Brooklyn; Methacton High School in Norristown, Penn.; Hempstead High School in Hempstead, NY; Mount St. Michael Academy in Bronx, NY; Ramapo High School in Spring Valley, NY; and
three top teams from Jamaica: Calabar High School, Herbert Morrison Technical High School and St. Jago High School.

Set for the Boys’ 4x400-Meter Relay are Fordham Prep in Bronx, NY; Curtis High School on Staten Island; Amityville Memorial High School in Amityville, NY; Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY; and Herbert Morrison, Calabar and St. Jago from Jamaica.

The Boys’ 4x800-Meter Relay will feature Science Skills High School in Brooklyn; Monsignor Farrell High School on Staten Island; Fordham Prep from Bronx, NY; Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY; Smithtown East High School in St. James, NY; Half Hallow Hills West High School in Dix Hills, NY; Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, NY; Pine Bush High School in Pine Bush, NY; Great Neck South High School in Great Neck, NY; and Iona Prep in New Rochelle.
