State of the Action: Coming into the meet, there was some concern for the Freshman State Record Holder in the event. It seemed many of Erica Ellis' best jumps of the season came in the very early season, in a timeframe where she broke the state frosh record four times in two weeks. Since then, she had been hovering around 11-6, despite a 12-footer at Sectionals. With all that off her mind, Ellis returned to the spotlight, clearing 11-6 on her first attempt. But the pressure wasn't off. It took her third attempt to get over 11-9, a height that the State Leader Tedi Demaria passed on. At the 12-0 bar, Demaria cleared the mark on her first attempt, while Ellis again had to settle for her third attempt, tiring to say the least. It was the 12-3 bar that made all the difference. Ellis made the rebound and cleared the bar on her first attempt, while Demaria couldn't get over. With the competition over, Ellis took an attempt at 12-7, just under the National Freshman record, but without success. | |||||
