The rumblings are starting. It’s been months since the Armory has been flooded like this. But here we are with the first major meet of the indoor season, the 54th annual Bishop Loughlin Games are set to take place Saturday and Sunday at New Balance Track & Field Center. The varsity events are Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The freshman/sophomore portion is Sunday at 9 a.m.
Carmel senior Kristin Reese, who committed to Stanford last month, is one of the top seeds highlighting the girls 2 mile run Saturday. Reese is coming off a short cross country season since recovering from a stress fracture in her right foot that kept her in a boot for six weeks during the summer. She won the 2 mile last year in 10 minutes, 49.77 seconds. Foot Locker national finalists Shelby Greany of Suffern and Emily Lipari of Roslyn, who finished sixth at Foot Locker, are also both entered in the race but may sit out with their cross country seasons ending last week with the race in San Diego, Calif.
The 2 mile may be a spotlighted race, but there will be lots of attention on the girls 1,000 meters. Indoor and Outdoor national 800-meter champion Chanelle Price (Easton, Pa.) is entered. Price ran 2:02.38, finishing seventh at the USA Outdoor Championships in June, fourth-fastest scholastic mark all-time.
Mike Terry of Danbury in Connecticut is among the top entrants in the boys 2 mile. Peekskill’s Lawrence Campbell and Khaliff Featherstone of Simon Gratz (Philadelphia, Pa.) are two of the top contenders in the in the 600. Campbell has the fastest-time in New York State at 600 meters.
The Loughlin Games expects about 5,500 athletes from 235 schools.
General Admission: $5.00
