MileSplit HQ - New York has long been one of the most inclusive states for Track and Field, and Cross Country. We're one of the few states in the region who allow Middle Schoolers to compete on a Varsity sport, after passing a special classification test.
With that decision, our state records start young. One individual is on a course with course records, and is headed in the right direction. Katelyn Tuohy, a 7th grader from North Rockland, set the 7th Grade State Record in the 1000m this past weekend, when she took second overall at her league meet, with a time of 2:58.08. She already cracked into the State consciousness earlier this year, when she ran 4:44.50, which still stands as NY #2.
This girl is one to watch.
