State of the Action: Heading down the final hill, Section 2 rivals Patrick Murphy (Duanesburg) and Daryn Hutchings (Argyle), ran side by side.  They had battled together to the front of the pack, after trailing in the early stages of the race.  They had battled all season long, facing each other six times over the last 4 years.  In both 2012 and 2013, at the New York State XC Meet, it had been Hutchings who would get the better of the pair.  In 2014, Murphy was looking for a change.  With 300 meters to go, Murphy threw in one final surge, one which Huntchings wouldn't be able to respond too.  The senior from Duanesburg would rush the finish line, claiming his first state title ever.  Behind the pair was Everett Geiger of Caledonia-Mumford (A former State Meet host school Outdoors), who had been equal to the leaders at the halfway mark.  Dawson Bathgate of East Rochester rounds out the top four.
