US Top 20 Performances

Boys Highlights

• US #3 clocking of 34.27 in the 300 meter dash from Anton Porter of Mt. St. Michael in the finals.

• Porter also ran a leg on the first place 4x200 meter relay, which rolled under 1:30 with a 1:29.73 win (US #4) in a thriller against Farmingdale (2nd, US #5 1:29.90).

• Another relay battle producing US top 5 times was found in the boys 4x400 between Old Bridge as the US #3 3:22.10 winners and Newburgh as the US #4 3:22.59 close runners-up.

• US top 10 times from the top two finishing teams in the 4x800 with the Northport boys taking the win in 8:04.63 (US #5) and Arlington finishing just behind them at 8:06.09 (US #7).

• Tim McGowan clinches the win over Mikey Brannigan in 3200, both under NY state leading time, with a 9:17.96 (US #3) and a 9:17.99 (US #4).

• Another meet and another throw over 60 feet for current US leader Benjamin Bonhurst of Smithtown West (NY) in the shot put with a winning mark of 61'9.50" at the Stanner Games.

• Mosignor Farrell's Justin Sicari cleared a season best height of 6'8.25" in the high jump to move him into sole possession of a US #5 ranking in the event.

• It went down to the finish to determine the invite mile winner between Chaminade's Sean Kelly (US #9 4:20.27) and Collegiate's Marco Pompilj (US #11 4:20.63). 

• Riverhead's Charles Villa cleared 15'1" in the pole vault, which is just off his US #9 season best of 15'3" from the Hispanic Games.

• Eastchester's Martin O'Connell posted a US #17 time of 2:32.53 in the 1000 meter run.

• In the non-invitational 16000, North Rockland's Liam Purdy pulled away for a 4 second margin of victory with his US #20 performance of 4:21.96 in the 1600 meter run.

 

Girls Highlights

• Current US #2 ranked in the girls 300 meter das (39.34 season best), Arlington (NY) junior Zola Golden was able to withstand a challenge from Garden City's and US #2 600 meter performer Emma Gallagher (US #9 39.96) in the 300 finals for another low 39 second performance at the Armory in a 39.48 victory.
• Bella Burda of Arlington (NY) moved into US #2 with her newly minted 3K mark of 9:55.47, which she won by a convincing margin of 14 seconds.
• Jazzmine Fray of Kellenberg hits a season best of 2:57.69, to head to NY#1 and US #5 for the 1000 meters.
• Kathlen Cibuls (Bayport BP) was able to keep Fray from winning a second race in the 600 with a US #10 win of 1:34.94.
• Oyi Adewale from Half Hollow Hills West threw for a US #13 winning mark of 42'2" in the shot put.

Paige Duca, of Sacred Heart, used a late race kick to chase down the leaders in the mile.

"It felt like my league meet, so many of the same teams" were Sean Kelly's first thoughts after winning the mile.

Kathleen Cibuls tore down the track to win the girls 600m.

Unleashing a killer last lap, Jake Burcham hammered away at a NY #3 mark of 1:20.84

Zola Golden edged out a strong field, keeping her 300m streak intact.

A big day for Anton Porter, with a win in the 300m, and an anchor leg for the US #4 mark in the 4x200m, 1:29.73, faster than any team last year.

The Monroe-Woodbury girls took home the win in the 4x800m.

The torque around the turns was noticeable for the boys 4x800m relays, with times the fastest yet.

Giving prudence to their mascot the Flyers, Sean Kelly ended his 1:53.3 leg with a flying handoff.

But it was Northport to take the win, with their US #5 performance.

Elmont got the edge in the girls 4x400m

While it was old hat for Old Bridge in the boys section of the 4x400m.
