Flynn, Flannery Take Home Titles at Westchester Counties

Croton Point Park, NY - If there was a perfect way to prepare for the state meet course, short of making the journey up to Queensbury, it would be to find another flat, fast 5k.  Converting the 2.5 course to the full standard, the course at Croton Point got even faster.  Check out the two race winners below.

Boys Varsity

The pace went out very relaxed, as the field was looking for a leader to break through the wind, that never came.  One mile in and the front pack was still incredibly close.

After hitting the 2-mile mark, defending champion, Senior John Flannery of Bronxville, grew tired of the pace.  Accelerating through the flat back fields, he began pulling away, soon to a commanding lead.  He would win in 15:39.86.

Girls Varsity

For the girls, much the same.  The lead pack stayed together through the first mile, before the swiftest started to break away.  Anna Flynn, of Ursuline, strung out a strong pack, including Vicky Martinez of Fox Lane and Chelsea Ogindo of Peekskill.

Flynn would break the pack in much the same way Flannery was able to, running away from the leaders on the back "hill".  Her winning time of 17:30.98 puts her ranked as one of the top ten girls in the state.
