New York State XC Rankings
Following Week of Saturday, October 27
Note: Lots of action as the county and conference meets rolled through. There were a few major changes as teams headed to Sectionals, the wrath of Sandy permitting.

Perry's Rationale and Wrapper: | Let the results speak for themselves as teams move into position for Sectionals. The Suburban Council let Saratoga flex its muscles, and Guilderland also ran well with Shenendehowa, Shaker, Colonie, and Bethlehem keeping close. Rush-Henrietta once again proved the strongest team out in Section 5 with a win over Penfield, Canandaigua, and Hilton at the Monroe County. Warwick Valley moved up to 3rd with another rising tide race at the Orange County meet, with Monroe-Woddbury and Valley Central a ways behind. Liverpool beat out Cicero-North Syracuse and Baldwinsville in the CNYCL National meet. Lastly, there was also the CNYCL American race where Fayetteville-Manlius got to shake a leg again and Alana Pearl and Jillian Fanning led the Hornets to one of those gaudy 134.2 TR averages entering the postseason.
Kyle's Comments: | With Fanning assured to return for Sectionals and States if they qualify, FM expands their lead. Behind them, Saratoga reclaims the #2 spot after a strong showing. The big question is how many of the 15 sections will be able to actually hold state qualifiers next week. |

Perry's Rationale and Wrapper: | The top teams all came up very big in their conference and county championships. Holy Names stretched its ratings with a win at Colonial Council, East Aurora copied that act at ECIC, and Burnt Hills stayed within shouting distance of Saratoga in the elite Suburban Council race. Nanuet made it a top quartet in Class B with a win over Pearl River and Tappan Zee at Rockland. Other big winners included Queensbury, Miller Place, Garden City, and Canton, and in the very competitive Orange County championship Cornwall finished behind only Warwick Valley. Westhill made the big leap with a first at OHSL Liberty. The State Qualifier slates are set, with Sections 1, 2, 3, and 8 featuring some ripsnorters.
Kyle's Comments: | While not many big changes in the rankings, some close matchups were decided this past weekend. How teams recover will signify if they are able to punch their tickets to elma meadows. |

Next up: Onteora, Albany Academy, Mechanicville, Catskill, Allegany-Limestone, Cohoes, Ilion, Sullivan West |
Perry's Rationale and Wrapper: | Bronxville again triumphed over a 27-team crowd at Westchester County, though the margin of advantage over the rest of the NYS-C field has shrunk without Mary Cain at the front. Skaneateles seems to have edged back ahead of Tully in Section 3, but only the SQs can settle this one. Fredonia, Tri-Valley, Newark Valley, and Mattituck appear to have serious holds on Sections 5, 9, 4 and 11 respectively after good races, but Sections 2 and 6 look to be set for a dogfight.
Kyle's Comments: | Still the favorites for Class C, Bronxville ran very well at the speed course at Croton Point Park. Section 3 is getting closer at the top, and will make for a great matchup on Friday. |

Next up: Haldane, Pulaski, Fabius-Pompey, Stony Brook, Norwood-Norfolk, Lafayette |
Perry's Rationale and Wrapper: | Maple Grove, Greenwich, and South Lewis all won their races to set up the likely battle for the top three spots at States. Section 5 looks to have the best battle at State Qualifiers with Oakfield-Alabama, Red Creek, Notre Dame-Batavia, and Geneseo all running in the same territory. Teams with asterisks are scored on 4 runners.
Kyle's Comments: | Still remain the same at the top. |
