Dorrell ready to mix it up with great mile field at Millrose MileSplit Staff Feb 1, 2008

Photo by John Herzog Blacksburg senior Peter Dorrell heads to New York City on Friday to compete in the high school boys' mile in one of our country's most storied and prestigous events in the Millrose Games contested at Madison Square Garden. Dorrell is the first Virginian to be invited to the boys' mile race in five years as a 4:16 mile win at the Montgomery Invite on January 12th helped secure his spot in the field. The five-time state champion is riding high heading into this weekend after running the nation's fastest 3200 meter time of 9:06 and publicly stating where he will be running collegiately in a MileStat.com video interview last weekend at the Tech Invite. The College of William & Mary and Coach Alex Gibby are certainly excited to receive the verbal committment from one of Virginia's top distance runners, but having a Millrose mile champion would be even better. Check out Dorrell's chances and the top competitors that he will be facing in the Friday night race at MSG in MileSplit US national editor Scott Bush's preview article. The high school boys' mile with Dorrell is expected to be shown in a taped NBC show of the Millrose Games on Saturday. Check your local listings for the airtime of the meet.  Smith leads girls mile; Boys & Girls and Cardozo square off in 4x400 By Christopher Hunt Kyle Merber says he generally isn’t bothered by the lights, by the big stage. Track is fun. He smiled a lot before his race at the Boston Indoor Games last Saturday, didn’t feel pressure. But he’s never run at Madison Square Garden before. The Half Hollow Hills West senior has never even seen the Millrose Games in person. But he knows that his race might be different. “I’ll try not to look up,” Merber said. “There is some pressure when 18,000 people are watching you. You definitely feel some pressure.” FULL STORY HERE
