Athletes spend a great deal of their time learning and practicing the various events offered during the indoor season. Runners can keep a record of their accomplishments by looking at the listings on the internet. The running events are listed using fully automatic timing and the results are to the nearest hundredth. But our field event athletes are not given the same honor, as their results are listed to the nearest inch, or half-inch. You would think that an official could spend an extra 1-2 seconds to measure to the nearest quarter of an inch. While runners results are extremely accurate, field results are not. Isn't it about time to measure all field events with metric measurements? How hard would it be to yell out 5.37, when measuring the distance in the long jump. Let's not cheat our field event athletes.
