Illinois distance phenom Lukas Verzbicas will join Bernard Lagat in the 2-mile at the NYRR Saturday Night at The Armory III, meet director Jack Pfeifer confirmed late last night.

Lagat will be chasing his seventh American record while Verzbicas, who competed in the men’s mile at the Boston Indoor Games Saturday, will have a shot at taking home a 46 year-old indoor national 2-mile record set by Gerry Lindgren.

Verzbicas, Sandburg High’s Foot Locker national cross country champ, clocked 4:03.88, finishing eighth behind Alan Webb (seventh) and ahead of Leo Manzano (10th).
