SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's cross country team is ranked No. 23 in the nation according to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) poll, marking the highest ranking for the Orange. The team cracked the national rankings for the first time in program history last season when it earned the No. 25 spot.
The Orange's ranking comes after the first two meets of the season. At the Harry Lang Invitational on Sept. 5, the women were led by sophomore Lauryn MacFawn who finished second, as the team claimed third place overall. Last week, the women were propelled to a first place finish at the Colgate Invitational by junior veteran Rebekah MacKay, who captured the top individual spot.
Five other BIG EAST women's teams are ranked in the top 25, including No. 4 West Virginia, No. 5 Villanova, No. 9 Georgetown, No. 19 Providence, and No. 29 Notre Dame.
The SU cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Wisconsin Inter-Regional meet.
