Recap: Plenty of confusion, and some faulty equipment, led to a first-ever split decision in the 300m final. With qualifiers spread out between three heats, the top two times came from the final two heats of the 300m final. Problem was, the Starter's Pistol fired a dud, which did not initiate the FAT process. The final heat void of times, officials reverted back to hand-time backups from the finish. Both winners from the final two heats carried the same hand-time, and were determined to split the win.
