Cross Country Returns to Hamilton for Colgate Invite

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Syracuse University cross country teams will compete in the Colgate Invitational this Saturday, September 19 in Hamilton, N.Y. The men, expected to begin racing at 10:30 a.m., will run in both 6k and 4200-meter events at the same time. The women's race is set to begin at 9:45 a.m.

Both the Orange men and women raced in Hamilton two weeks ago at the Harry Lang Invitational, with the men's squad finishing second overall and the women's team taking third place. Junior Steve Murdock led the men's side, earning a first place individual finish with a time of 20:28. Lauryn MacFawn (16:22) set the pace for her team, placing second on the women's side.

After running a small squad at the Harry Lang Invite, fifth-year head coach Chris Fox will run 21 student-athletes in the men's race and 17 in the women's competition on Saturday. The Orange will look to several veterans for leadership at the Colgate Invitational, as many will be returning to action for the first time this season.

The men's team, who ranks fourth in the USTFCCCA Northeast Region preseason poll, will be led by seniors Brad Miller and Dan Busby. Both Miller and Busby were 2008 NCAA Qualifiers and All-Northeast Region selections.

The second-ranked women will be running three All-Northeast selections – senior Maegan Krifchin, junior Rebekah MacKay, and sophomore Lauren Penney. This weekend's race will also feature two Orange newcomers on the women's side, freshmen Sarah Pagano and Kimberly Spano.

Up next for SU will be the Wisconsin Inter-Regional meet on Saturday, Oct. 3.
