Previewing the MIAA All-State Championships

Girls Field

Long Jump

Meet Record: 20-3.5     Last Year's Winner:  Abby Greeley (Medway) 18-5.5

Woburn's Brooklyn Manna exploded to a 19-9.75 to win MIAA E Div. 2, and she is now a big favorite in the LJ. 3rd seeded Jamie Chamberlain of Brookline has reached 19-0, and Sharon's Jada Johnson and Andover's Jodi Parrott are at 18-11. Two others above the 18-8 mark include Jules Hogan of Advanced Math and Science and Stephanie Simon of Chelsea.

Triple Jump

Meet Record: 42-0     Last Year's Winner:  Christina Speliakos (Milford) 37-9

The TJ should be one of the most competitive events at States, as four jumpers at the top are all within 3 inches of each other in season's bests. Sophie Wright of Cambridge Rindge and Latin made a big leap to the top with a 39-3.75 mark at MIAA E Div. 1, but right on her heels in the pit are Ali Grasso (North Reading) at 39-3.25, LJ favorite Brooklyn Manna of Woburn at 39-1.5, and Chelsea's Stephanie Simon at 39-1. Also not far behind are North Attleborough's Lily Wetherbee and Sharon's Avonia Herbert.

High Jump

Meet Record: 5-10     Last Year's Winner:  Anna Jordahl-Henry (Wellesley) 5-8

The HJ is another tight competition, as four jumpers share the top mark of 5-8. Reigning champ Anna Jordahl-Henry won MIAA Div. 1 and Sharon's Jada Johnson won MIAA Div. 2, but Framingham's Sophie Albright and North Andover's Sarah Lavery have also scaled 5-8. Holliston's Brooke Geoffroy has gone over 5-7.

Pole Vault

Meet Record: 13-0     Last Year's Winner:  Sophia Casciano (North Reading) 11-3

Last year's wonderfully named runner-up Haley Lightbody is among a quartet of top PVers at 11-0 after winning the MIAA Div.2 title. Joining her at the top are MIAA Div.1 winner Cat Fox of Nashoba, North Reading's MIAA Div. 3 winner Isabella Parrett, and Algonquin's Rai Ann Bu. Last year's 3rd place finisher Emily Hickey of Austin Prep and 5th place finisher Cecelia Goetz of Westborough are among the PVers at 10-6.

Shot Put

Meet Record: 45-5.75     Last Year's Winner:  Cameron Garabian (Seekonk) 41-6.75

Reigning champ Cameron Garabian pushed her outdoor PR up by more than 9 inches with a 45-3 at MIAA E Div 4, but that still leaves her almost 3 feet behind the 48-2 she threw at MIAA indoors. Garabian will be likely the biggest favorite for any of the girls' events, as the nearest competition is all of 6 feet behind. Teya Drumm of Burke, Julieth Nwosu of Brockton, Abby Chorches of Falmouth, and last year's runner-up Tiana Blazie of Dennis Yarmouth will all likely be in the hunt for 2nd.

Discus

Meet Record: 157-5     Last Year's Winner:   Tiana Blazie  (Dennis-Yarmouth) 134-1
2018 winner Tiana Blazie again leads the way after a 130-4 throw at MIAA E Div. 3 pushed her season's best up another 7 feet. This contest should still be close though as Newton North's Ashley Wang has done 129-10, Natick's Kassidy Gallagher has thrown 127-5, Seekonk's 2018 3rd place finisher Cameron Garabian is at 125-9, and Holliston's 2018 runner-up Isabella Bergloff is at 124-0.

Javelin

Meet Record:  156-10     Last Year's Winner:  Shira Stoller (Sharon) 156-10
The top four finishers including last year's record setter Shira Stoller of Sharon are gone. Taunton sophomore Hannah McEntee placed 13th in 2018 and leads the way this year at 125-7. Also over the 120 mark are Kaiya Saunders of Doherty and Julia Feid of North Attleboro, while Martina Nkwantah of North Middlesex and Olivia Valianti of Marshfield have broken 118.

Pentathlon

Meet Record:  3529     Last Year's Winner:  Jada Johnson (Sharon) 3529
Last year's big record setter Jada Johnson has opted to do the individual events this year in the pent's HJ, LJ and 100H, so the competition here is wide open. Four of the contestants have topped the 3000 mark for what appears should be a tight battle, as Mackenzie Condon of Martha Vineyard is at 3182, Alexandra Gonet of Pope Francis and Emma Phelps of Westborough are at 3116, and Rachel Caldwell-Glixon of Lexington is at 3087.
