New Rochelle Comes Away With Unprecedented Relay Sweep

Yesterday, something truly unique happened at Suffern Middle School.  It was the Section 1 Class A Championships, and as usual, the New Rochelle girls team was one of the favorites for the title.  They had won 10 of the last 15, so it was no surprise.  However, how they won that title, may have been more noteworthy.

In one of the more competitive Sections in the State, how many teams have ever swept all three relays?  On top of that, how many have ever done so without reusing a single athlete?  That's exactly what New Rochelle did on Saturday, running towards a 70-point margin of victory over North Rockland, the last team to dethrone them, Indoors or Out.

Not only that, but New Rochelle put two scorers in the 100m - 200m - 400m - 400H - LJ - SP, of which, one of them won the event overall.  In the Pole Vault and 2k Steeple, they only had one scorer, but still won the event.  TJ saw a second place behind North Rockland's Indoor State Champion in the event, with another second place mark in the Discus.  It was a strong day for a squad with that much depth.

But it was that Relay Depth that impressed the most.  And remember, they ran these relays without top gun Pentathaloner Olivia Morgan, who carries personal bests of 26.5 for 200m, 63.6 for 400H, and a 2:27 at the end of the State Meet Pent competition last spring.  With her 18-2 Long Jump to boot, something tells me she can speed up any of the three relays below.

Oh, and case you were wondering about the boys?  They won their Class A Sectional Title too.
