The 12 Biggest New York Marks From New Balance Nationals This Year

Learning From The Millrose Mile

Who: Katherine Lee (Shoreham-Wading River)

What Place: 3rd Place in Championship Mile

Why: Through 1500m, it looked as if the Mile was to be a runway victory for Marlee Starliper of PA.  But as Millrose showed us, if you stay in the race long enough, anything can happen.  With 50m to go, Starliper was strained. Katherine Lee had bided her time perfectly, comprising a chase pack that was slowly eating away at the lead.  With the finish in sight, Lee kicked away with her group, and came across the line for a Bronze Medal.  Lily Flynn, also of MY, kicked through as well, placing 5th at 4:48.26

The race now makes her NY #7 All-Time for the Mile Distance, her highest AT ranking in any event, Indoors or Out.  She also split 4:28.58 for the 1500m.  While not as high on the All-Time list for that event, it shows that her kick brought her to unprecedented heights, when she needed it most.
