Longtime NYC Track and Field Official Passes Away

For many competing on the ovals of the Big Apple, Adam Sanford was a regular sight.  Serving as the Officials Assigner at the Armory, as well as President of the USATF NY Officials Association, Sanford was an institution at the area's track meets.

Sanford served as Co-Meet Director at the Bishop Loughlin Games in 2018, as well as being heavily involved in the storied Manahattan Invitational in the Fall, as well as New Balance Nationals Indoor in the Winter.  He also served as the head starter for the 2015 Indoor CHSAA Intersectional Championships.

Our thoughts go out to his family, and the full NYS Track Officials community.

Adam represented the best of our sport. He cared about the athletes, and would direct a meet and officials to keep it moving to the benefit of those athletes. What I respected the most was, despite the chaos of a meet, he could focus on the issue in front of him and you knew you were being heard. But with a glance, Adam could quickly communicate that your issue was not yet on top of his endless list.
