Wayne Eagles Pre-State Invite Answers Big Questions, But Raises More - Full Recap

Division 2

Girls

Snapshot: Eighth grader Lizzie Lucason (Camden) pulled away from the field, and never looked back.  After being in the mix with FM the week before, she came away with a clear win at Pre-States, over junior Rebekah Preisser (Pittsford-Sutherland). Queensbury girls matched their boys to sweep the Division 2 team titles on the day, besting Section 2 rivals Mohonasen by 28 points.

Questions Answered: Lucason, the sixth place finisher at Feds last year, has returned to the trails of XC as strong as ever, and has once again shown consistency.

Questions Raised:  Does this strong showing mean that Queensbury might now have the edge on the Burnt Hills girls for a Sectional title?

Boys

Snapshot: It was double trouble at the front of the race, as Greg and Matt Fusco (Somers) led throughout.  Behind them, it was almost a photo finish, as Owen Walker (VSS) outleans Sam Lawler (Pittsford-Mendon) for the bronze.  Queensbury took a win over Pearl River by six points, upsetting the preseason State Rankings.

Questions Answered: The Fuscos came away with a strong set of times in the merge, yet reversed their finishing order from a week ago.  Still, they solidified their spot as contenders for the Class B title.

Questions Raised: Pearl River ran without their #1 in Matt Politis.  With him added back in, it might change the outcome of this meet, but could it bring them close to the projected favorites, Burnt Hills?
