Brannigan Leaves World Para Athletics Championships With Two Golds, One Silver

After his Gold Medal performance earlier in the week, Mikey Brannigan was back for more.  With the 800m trials next in the lineup, Brannigan won his heat in 1:57.99, the fastest of all the qualifiers.  The field was set for the next day.

The final came, and Mikey was ready.  The gun went off, and the pack went hard.  Brannigan made the stagger in the middle of the pack, swallowed up by the competition.  He readjusted back into third by the 200m mark, and then moved up to second by 400m.  Coming through in 56-seconds, the race was on, with Steve Morris once again trying to outlast Brannigan.  The pair ran side-by-side down the backstretch, before Morris suffered a fade.  Brannigan accelerated with the line in sight, and came across in 1:54.24, a new season's best, and his first International Gold in the event.

By Brannigan wasn't done.  Coming back within 24hours, he was on the track for his final event, the 5000m.  Running strong, Brannigan managed a new personal best by 4seconds, running 14:39.87 for a silver medal.  His previous best had been from Indoors, when he took second at New Balance Nationals in 2015.
