Lauren Harris Finishes Just Outside Top Ten At Pan Am Champs

Just one week after breaking the Outdoor National Record in the 1500m Outdoor Racewalk, Sachem East Senior Lauren Harris was on a plane to Lima, Peru.  There, she was competing for Team USA in the Pan Am Championships.  She had walked 49:55.0 in the Trials back here in Pennsylvania, and was taking on the best in the World.

When all was said and done, Harris finished in 11th place, the highest American in the competition.  The winning time was 45:17 by an athlete from Mexico.  Heading back to the States, Harris has some unfinished business.  Her likely next big competition will be New Balance Outdoor Nationals.  Per request, the distance has been increased to the 3000m walk.  The national record stands at 13:41.95, set by Anya-Maria Ruoss of Fayetteville, AK, back in the 1994.  With Harris having the Indoor/Outdoor 1500m and Mile Records, it would be the one record she doesn't have.
