Jillian Shippee Shatters Overall State Record In Season Debut

Icahn Stadium, NY - The Indoor National Champion, and new State Record Holder in the Weight Throw, Jillian Shippee (Shenendehowa) made her annual debut with a bang at the New York Relays.  Like in 2016, the trip was worth the drive down from the Capital Region, as she walked away with another State Record.

As a junior, Shippee did much the same.  She opened her season with a Junior State Record Throw at NY Relays.  The mark was 176-2, a major personal best.  The early mark proved to be an indicator of what was to come.  The mark qualified her for New Balance Outdoor Nationals, where Shippee rebroke that Record with a throw of 181-1.  Not only was it a significant personal best, the Junior won the National Title as well.

Flash forward to 2017, and Shippee is back in the news.  During the preliminary throws at the 2017 New York Relays, she launched a huge personal best of 196-2.  The mark makes her US #2 this year, as well as US #6 All-Time.  The only girls ahead of her have crested that 200-foot mark, a nice goal to shoot for when she throws at New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
