Section 1 Rankings - Week 8

Section 1 Girls’ Open Rankings – Week of 11/10/08

1. Pearl River (B) (#1 previous week) 2nd place in class B at the New York State Meet on Saturday. Chelsea Kushner finished 9th in the race and led her team to a 6th place finish in the merge of all teams on the day. 4 girls in the top 25 of the race.

2. Arlington (AA)(#2 previous week) 3rd. place in the AA race at the state meet. Rachel Sorna led the team by placing 12th in the race. 2 in the top 25 of this race is very good, with the 2x defending NTN winners, Fayeteville Manlius running as well as Saratoga. The Admirals finished 8th in the merge of all teams.

3. North Rockland (AA) (#3 previous week) 9th ranked team in AA in NYS, and a bubble team on the top 10 overall list.

4. Bronxville (C ) (#5 previous week) Class C champions, 7th state title for the Broncos. The continuing improvement in the health of Flannery helped get this team to earn an invite to the Federation meet on Saturday. Bubble team for the NYS top 10 overall list.

5. Ursuline (A) (#4 previous week) #6 ranked A team in NYS, finished 4th at the state meet. Katie Sullivan led the team with a top 25 finish over the hills of Sunken Meadow State Park.

6. Suffern (AA) (#6 previous week) Ranked #20 in AA in NYS this week. Shelby Greany ran to a very good 2nd. place finish at the New York State Meet on Saturday.

7. Tappan Zee (A) (#8 previous week) #14 on the New York State Class A list this week. Jackie Pollock finished 27th at the New York State Meet on Saturday.

8. Brewster (A) (#7 previous week) #16 in NYS class A this week. Had 3 girls at the state meet.

9. White Plains (AA) (#9 previous week) Freshman, Elizabeth Trelstad, in her first state meet, finished 31st in the very tough class AA race.

10. Mahopac (AA) (#8 previous week)

AA Girls (previous week rankings in parenthesis)

1. Arlington (1) Class AA Section 1 Champions 2008. 3rd. Place in NYS meet. #5 ranked in NYS.

2. North Rockland (2) Close second to Arlington at Sectionals. Ranked #9 NYS.

3. Suffern (3) Ranked #20 NYS.

4. White Plains (4) This team will be very motivated over the summer to bring back a great squad to battle for top 3 next year.

5. Mahopac (5) Finished 5th at the sectional meet.

A Girls (previous week rankings in parenthesis)

1. Ursuline (1) 4th place finish at the state meet and only losing Sullivan from this line-up for next year. She will be missed but the others are ready to move up.

2. Tappan Zee (2) Pollack will return next year and help her team to do battle with the other A teams for the top spot in A.

3. Brewster (3) Team will return 2 great leaders next year in Munn and 8th grader Bottalico. They finished together at the state meet in top 40.

4. Horace Greeley (4) This team will reload for next year and be ready to try to get back to that #1 spot they have occupied before.

5. Somers (5) Losing only 1 senior from this group. They should be motivated to make a big jump next year.

Class B (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Pearl River (1) This team continues to roll. They will get another shot at Bowdoin Park’s hills this weekend at the Federation meet. If they run like they ran at Sectionals on this course they will do very well.

2. Nanuet (2) 8th grader, Megan Young, looked very strong finishing 14th in the B race at the state meet. She is certainly a runner to build a team around for next year. Freshman, Deanna Felicissimo, finished in the top 75 at the state meet as well. #13 in NYS Class B ranks this week.

3. Our Lady Of Lourdes (3) Finished 3rd at the sectional meet. #23 NYS class B ranked team.

4. Edgemont (4 ) 4th place at the sectional meet with a 23:15 average at Bowdoin..#25 NYS class B ranked team this week.

5. Pelham (3) Senior, Margaret Larkin finished in the top 80 at the state meet to end her high school XC season in style.

Class C (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Bronxville (1) New York State Champions, Class C!! Mitchell’s girls earned their 7th state title and the team earned an invite to the New York Federation meet this weekend. Senior, Caitlin Hudson, led the team with a 9th place finish and was followed closely by fellow senior Tori Flannery in 13th.

2. Irvington (2) Annie Field represented the team well at the state meet with a 17th place finish.#11 ranked Class C team in NYS.

3. Pawling (3) Team was represented at the state meet by Caitlin Jelinek with a top 40 finish. Team is ranked this week at #13 in NYS.

4. Dobbs Ferry (4) Represented by Freshman, Sarah King, finishing 22nd. at the state meet. Ranked #24 in NYS this week class C.

5. Hastings (5) 5th place finish at Sectionals.

Class D (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Haldane (1) Represented Section 1 at the NYS meet on Saturday. Shauna Kalantri led the team with a top 90 finish. .

Section 1 Boys’ Open Rankings- Week of 10/26/08

1. Suffern (AA) (#1 previous week)Finished 3rd in the AA race at the New York State Championships. Taking on the powers of Shenendehowa and Fayetteville Manlius is not an easy feat. Shenendehowa is the #1 ranked team in the USA. Suffern earned a #8 spot on the NYS top 10 list this week.

2. North Rockland (AA)(#2 previous week) Nick Hughes ran to a 6th place finish in the AA race at State’s and beat all section 1 kids. Team ranked #8 class AA this week in NYS.

3. Arlington (AA)(#4 previous week) Team was represented by Muller, Doherty, and Leslie at the state meet. Muller and Doherty ran together to a 16:30 finish to place in the top 12.

4. Fox Lane (A) (#3 previous week) Finished 5th in the A race at the state meet. Led by Sgaglio in 34th. Ranked #10 in NYS this week for Class A.

5. Scarsdale (AA) (#5 previous week) Bubble team Class AA this week in NYS.

6. Brewster (A) (#6 previous week) Represented at the state meet by John Carr and his brother, Charlie. They finished together in 64th and 65th.Team is ranked #11 this week in NYS class A.

7. Mahopac (AA)(#7 previous week) Sophomore McDonough finished 50th in the very competitive AA race on Saturday.

8. Byram Hills (B) (NR previous week) #14 ranked team in NYS this week for Class B. Team finished 9th in the B race at the state meet.

9. Pearl River (B)(#8 previous week) #15 in NYS this week. Hickey battled with the leaders on Saturday and finished a very good 3rd. Hickey will continue his season at the Federation meet on Saturday.

10. Irvington (C ) (#10 previous week) A great 3rd. place finish at the New York State meet on Saturday with the front running duo of Saliani and Mathews finishing in 7th and 12th in the race. #5 ranked team in NYS in Class C this week.

Boys Class Rankings

Class AA (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Suffern ( 1)This team followed through on their plan and they succeeded in winning the section 1 title. A great way to finish the season, by getting invited to the Federation meet this weekend.

2. North Rockland(2 ) Hughes and company had a good year and earned an invite to the Federation meet to take on the best in New York state.

3. Arlington (3) Team will carry on at the Federation meet on Saturday.

4. Scarsdale ( 4) Will have one athlete at the Federation meet on Saturday.

5. Mahopac (5 )

Class A (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Fox Lane ( 1) Section 1 champions.

2. Brewster (2 ) 2nd to Fox Lane.

3. Horace Greeley (3) 3rd in the section meet.

4. Somers (4 ) 4th in the A meet.

5. Yorktown (5 ) 5th in the A meet. Manu Kumar earned a spot at Federations.

Class B (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Byram Hills ( 1) Finished the season well and earned their trip to the state meet.

2. Pearl River (2 ) Hickey will race at the Federation meet on Saturday.

3. Ardsley (3 ) 3rd place in the sectional meet.

4. Nanuet ( 4) beaten for 3rd in a tie-breaker at 156-156 to Ardsley. .

5. Rye ( 5) Just 10 points short of 3rd in the B race.

6. Class C ( previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Irvington ( 1) 3rd. place finish at the state meet to end the year on a high note.

2. Dobbs Ferry (2 ) Wortner brothers ran well at the state meet and now will think ahead to next fall and what they need to do to win the sectional meet.

3. Pawling (3 ) 3rd. place and no seniors in the top 5, one only an 8th grader. The future looks bright for this team.

4. Bronxville (4 ) 4th place with freshman Flannery and senior Hutton earning spots on the starting line at the state meet to represent the Broncos. With 3 freshman, a sophomore and a 7th grader in the top 7 this team will be working hard this summer.

5. Dover (5 ) 2 sophomores, Orton and Woodin will look to lead this team to bigger things next fall.

Class D ( previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Haldane (1) Earned a trip to the state meet for the first time, will this motivate them to repeat next year?

2. Keio (1) Not knowing the course may have cost this team another sectional title, however they should be motivated now to train hard this summer and look to reclaim their teams title.

3. Alexander Hamilton (3) A good start this year for a rejuvenated program. If they can keep the momentum going and get more kids out they could be dangerous next year in class D.

4. Blind Brook(4) This team has the numbers to do well, they need to commit to some summer running and know what race they are in when sectionals role around.

5. Children’s Village (5) Once again get 2 boys to qualify for the state meet. This team makes good progress every year and could soon be a bonafide title contender in the D ranks.
