Mike Miller Shatters Soph State Record, Approaches Overall In The 55m

Armory, NYC - He may have been under-the-radar since his last crack at the Sophomore State Record, where he lowered the mark to 6.38.  But Christopher Columbus Sophomore Michael Miller burst back onto the scene when a berth to the State Meet was on the line.  Lining up for the final, he had the second fastest seed of the day, behind Ramone Newland (South Shore), who was fresh off a 46.22 relay split the week before at Millrose.

Miller got a quick start out of the blocks, and accelerated towards the line.  He crossed the line ahead of the field, lowering his personal best to a strong 6.33.  Newland would take runner-up in 6.38, while Akeem King (Canarsie) would take third in 6.43, all going to States.

The mark now makes Miller the fastest sophomore in the country over 55m, faster even than Tyrese Cooper of Florida, who has been setting National Records at every distance.  The mark ties Miller for the third fastest time ever run by a New Yorker.  It is the second fastest mark ever run in the PSAL, just shy of the State Record set at 6.31.  With even tougher competition expected at the State Meet in two weeks, who knows how fast Miller can go at Ocean Breeze?
