Section 1 Rankings Week 6

Section 1 Boys Open Rankings – Week of 10/20/08

1.Arlington (AA)(#4 previous week) 2nd. Place in Division III race at Bowdoin. 175 average speed rating with a 16:53 team average.

2. North Rockland (AA) (#1 previous week): Took their turn resting this week to gear up for what promises to be a great race at the Rockland County Championship at Bear Mt. with Suffern. They had a 171 average speed rating last week at Van Cortlandt Park. That will keep them here until someone can take beat them for this spot.

3. Suffern(AA)- (#2 previous week) Won the Varsity I race at Bowdoin over the weekend with an average speed rating of 163 and a 17:30 average on the course. They ran without McKenna over the weekend, will they have him at Counties? 51 sec. compression for top 5 without McKenna is still very good.

4. Fox Lane (A) (#8 previous week) 1st. place in the Division II race at Bowdoin with a 17:36 team average on the course for an average speed rating of 161. 1:15 compression with Cord Sgaglio impressive in a 16:54 win.

5. Scarsdale (AA) (#3 previous week) Ran without the services of their #1,3, and 4 runners this weekend due to some health issues with colds/throats that will be over soon. Last week secured a 167 average speed rating at Manhattan. This week they ran to a 18:30 team average at Bowdoin and a 143 team average without the big 3 in their line-up. Coach Clarke will have them ready for Halloween.

6. Mahopac (AA) (#5 previous week) 2nd. Place in the Division II race with a 17:37 team average and a 160 average speed rating.

7. Brewster (A) (#6 previous week) 2nd. In Division I race to Suffern at Bowdoin. 17:50 team average with a 156 average speed rating and only a 36 sec. compression.

8. Byram Hills (B) (NR previous week) 7th in Division III race at Bowdoin with a 18:00 team average and a 153 average speed rating. Heading into sectionals looks like a real battle will be done on the course between these guys and Pearl River.

9. Pearl River (B) (#9 previous week) finished just one spot behind Byram Hills at Bowdoin but had a faster team time average of 17:55 and a 155 average speed rating, thanks in great part to Hickey’s strong run in the front. The Pirates will have to depend on the back strength to get past a very good Byram Hills squad at Sectionals.

10. Dobbs Ferry ( C ) (NR previous week) The Eagles were at full strength over the weekend at Bowdoin, finishing 3rd in the I race to Suffern and Brewster with a 18:03 team average and a 137 average speed rating. Patrick Wortner’s 17:11 a very good leader for the C meet coming up.

Boys Class Rankings:

Class AA (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Arlington (4)- Putting up a big 175 for average speed rating on Bowdoin is very good running.
2. North Rockland(1) Week of rest hoping to pay off in less than 2 weeks.
3. Suffern (2) With McKenna running this team should have a good run against N. Rockland on Thursday’s County meet.
4. Scarsdale (3)- Too many important pieces missing over the weekend to get a good guage of how they were going to be against section 1’s finest at Bowdoin. We will get a better idea Thursday at the County Meet.
5. Mahopac (5)- Getting closer to some of the teams ahead of them, will they time this right and strike for top 3 at the sectional meet? Their pack looked good from the gun on Saturday.

Class A (previous week ranking in parenthesis)

1. Fox Lane (3) This team is trying to get their timing down before the big meet on Halloween. They have been a little down, then right back up. Over the weekend proving they are still contenders for the Class A title by running 17:36 avg. at Bowdoin. Sgaglio will be a favorite for the individual title.

5. 5. Yorktown (5) ran 18:17 average at Bowdoin and a 147 average speed rating. With Kumar winning at 16:49 it sets up a good race between he and Sgaglio of Fox Lane. Will we get a preview of this at the County meet on Thursday?

Section 1 Girls’ Open Rankings – Week of 10/20/08

1. Pearl River (B) (#1 previous week) Talk about proving you deserve the ranking from the week before, these girls ran at Bowdoin and it was not hard to find them, as they finished with 5 girls in the top 10. They averaged 19:53 to win Varsity II race. They had a 117 average speed rating.
2. Arlington (AA) (#2 previous week) Ran to a 20:13 average at Bowdoin to finish 2nd in the III race with a 111 average speed rating. Sorna back to being the leader at 19:09. Service is about a minute back at 20:04.

4. North Rockland (AA) (#5 previous week) This was as close a call as I had to make this week. Pulling times from N. Rock. and Suffern in a dual meet race gives Suffern a 1 point win. Pulling just Rockland County girls from all races gives Pearl River the win, followed by Suffern then a close North Rockland. Pulling just AA schools in a sectional format gives North Rockland the win over Suffern for 2nd in AA behind Arlington. These girls ran to a 20:24 average and a 107 average speed rating behind the win from Gamboli at 19:45. They will all work this out on Thursday at the County Meet.

Girls Class Rankings:

AA Girls (Previous week ranking in parenthesis)
1. Arlington (1) Ran well at Bowdoin, if Service gets close to Sorna again they will be a potent 1-2 punch in the scoring at the AA meet coming up.
2. Suffern (2) Gearing up for a showdown with North Rockland and Pearl River on Thursday. Svoboda running very consistently for this squad.
3. North Rockland (3) If the pack rallies well behind Gamboli on Thursday they could pull an upset at the County meet.
4. Mahopac (4) Gearing up for a run at top 3 placing at Sectionals.
5. White Plains (5) The twins are running well on this team. Running on Saturday at Bowdoin should have given them some confidence that they can run with many of the big names in the area. They will be tested on Thursday at their county meet.

A Girls (Previous week ranking in parenthesis)
1. Brewster (1) Losing to only Pearl River in their race on Saturday sets this team up well for the next 2 weeks of work, If they can get their team average closer to 21:00 at Bowdoin on Halloween they will be tough to beat.
2. Tappan Zee (3) After sizing up their A competition on the course at Bowdoin they know what they have to do to make the jump up.
3. Ursuline (2) Took the week off from competition to get ready for the county meet and the sectional race. With Sullivan running the way she is and the rest of the team improving they will be dangerous at both meets.

C Girls (Previous week ranking in parenthesis)
1. Bronxville (1) Had a bit of an off week as a team but the front running of Hudson and the two eighth graders is keeping them in the game for now. Getting the top 7 to pack run at Counties on Thursday will be key.
2. Pawling (2) 21:42 average at Bowdoin. This is a good team that is running well against much larger competition. Their team average would do well in many classes above them.
