Katelyn Tuohy Breaks Another One Of Mary Cain's National Records, Moves to US #1 in 1000m

Armory, NYC - Freshman Katelyn Tuohy (North Rockland) is rolling into Championship season, putting down big performances.  Two days after setting a US #2 in the DMR, with a 4:50 anchor leg over 1600m, Tuohy was back at the Armory Track for the Section 1 Class A Championships.  Running against the best from north of NYC, Tuohy clocked a record-breaking 2:47.86 for the 1000m.

The mark betters the State and National Record set by Mary Cain, back in 2011.  Cain would later go on to become a professional athlete, with personal bests of 4:04.62 for the 1500m, and 4:24 for the Mile while still a HS student.

This isn't the first record of Cain's that Tuohy has broken.  As a seventh grader, Tuohy took down Cain's 7th Grade Mile State Record, with a 4:58.40 full mile Outdoors.

Not only is the mark a new Freshman National Record, it is also US #1 for 2017.  The mark surpasses that set by Sammy Watson earlier in the season.  Watson will be racing the pro 800m at the Millrose Games this weekend, while Tuohy is entered in the 4x400m.  In addition, it now stands as US #18 All-Time.
