Nike Cross Regionals Brings Out The Best In New York State

Breakdown: After coming mere seconds from qualifying in 2015, Nathan Lawler wasn't going to let the race dawdle through the opening mile, only to get outkicked at the line.  Lawler threw out the early pace, and took off from the field.  The race favorites sat 10m back, making sure that lead didn't grow insurmountable.  Lawler had 8 seconds on the field at halfway, still commanding the field.  That gap continued through the next mile.

With 800m to go, as the field approached the final flats, the chase pack saw the real danger that Lawler might not come back.  Liverpool trains for this situation, and began to close the gap as the distance to the finish diminished.  Coming out of the woods, it was State Champ Ty Brownlow with the lead.  Accelerating down the line, Brownlow crossed the line, making a quick U-turn to count his teammates in.  Lawler, who did the bulk of the work in the race, takes second overall, rewarded handsomely for his brave efforts.
