2016 Girls' New York State Meet Preview

Girls Class A - Individuals

Breakdown: The big guns are back in action.  2016 has proven that both Kelsey Chmiel and Jessica Lawson are in the best shape of their careers.  Neither one has run an honest effort under the 150 speed rating barrier all season.  Lawson holds the course record, but that means nothing in a race that will feature two of the top ten girls in the nation going head-to-head.  Lawson took second at States the year before, but Chmiel finished higher in the post-season, taking fourth overall at NXN.  At this point, it's a toss up for the individual win.

There are two people looking to spoil the fun of the 1on1 battle out front.  Katelyn Tuohy raced Lawson at Pre-States, but wasn't in the form to challenge the front runner.  That's since changed, as Tuohy has put in strong performances ever since, pushing her credentials forward on the Bear Mountain and Bowdoin Park All-Time lists.  And then there is Claire Walters, the surprise defending State Champion from the year before.  She shocked the state with a big leap in performances at States in 2015, and she looks to be above the level of sectionals last year.  Could we see it again?
