Boys Class A - Individuals
Breakdown: No question that Class A will be the most contentious race of the day. What else could be when the course record holder is only ranked 5th in the lineup? There are six legitimate athletes with a chance to pull off the victory, with several dark horses waiting in the mix. We'll break them down by their finishing order at Manhattan, where they all matched up for the only time this season. First overall was Noah Carey, who has been improving week over week this year. He took second at Manhattan, and went on to break into the SPAC Top 10 All-Time in the following weeks. That alone puts him at the top. Behind him are two pairs of teammates. Jonathan Lauer and Chris Tibbetts have been flip-flopping positioning all season long. Lauer had the edge at Manhattan, while Tibbetts took the win at Sectionals. Either of them have the credentials to win. Stevie Schulz has been leading teammate Ty Brownlow as of late, but both have been running well together, a potential to go 1-2 in the meet overall.
That leaves the two top runners from Pre-States. Kevin Moshier is the course record holder at Chenango, has the team motivations in the right place, and knows the course better than anyone in the field. He hasn't been running the big numbers the other athletes have, but that shouldn't discount him.
And then there are the two dark horses. First is Patrick Perry, who would have the course record to himself, if not for veering off-course at Pre-States. If Moshier is a favorite, what does that mean for Perry. He'll have to run closer to his early season form rather than as of late, but he could be in the mix up front. The other falls to Declan Hines, who has been hard pressed to keep up with Carey back at SPAC. But with a team title on the line, the motivation is there to exceed expectations.
Good luck predicting this one, as it will be one heck of a way to close out the entire meet.
