SPAC Record Goes Down

Quick Take: It was worth the wait for Saratoga to race once again in New York.  The fourth place finish at NXN last year was no one time deal, as Kelsey Chmiel has been on a roll this fall, never running under a 150 speed rating.  To take down the Saratoga Performing Arts course record is no simple task, as she had much better weather and much closer competition last year to do so.

Tuohy Best At Bear Mountain Since 2010

Breakdown: Following up a VCP Freshman Course Record, Katelyn Tuohy comes back one week after missing her personal best at Bowdoin.  At Bear Mountain, she rockets up the All-Time list, only behind two Foot Locker National Champs, and a 5th place finisher.  Her team looked strong as well, making improvements in a close Class A field.

Lee Elevates Mark At Sunken Meadow

Breakdown: After taking home the Goddard State Park course record from Rhode Island, Katherine Lee has been tearing it up back at home.  Sunken Meadow hasn't seen a runner of her caliber for quite some time, which explains why she is the only girl in the past 6 years to make the All-Time list.  For a venue that hosted Foot Locker Regionals for a few years, her rise is significant.

What Happened Earlier?

It's best not to forget about Jessica Lawson, who took down the McQuaid and Chenango Valley course records.  She ran relaxed at her local league meet, but may take another stab at her own course record at Sectionals.

Amanda Vestri moved to #10 at Webster Park earlier in the season, and looks to be strong as well.

Top 100 NY Ratings All-Time - Girls

It takes a 143 or better to make the Top 100 All-Time, a 150 or better to make the Top 50, and a 156 or better to make the Top 20.

So far, we have four girls who have cracked into that list, although two of which have superior marks on the books.  Both Lee and Tuohy have improved over last year, so far.

Which Record Should Watch Out Next?

While there is some safety in Aisling Cuffe's course record of 17:16.9 at Bowdoin Park, Erin Davis' 17:56.6 freshman record could be in serious trouble if Katelyn Tuohy gets a good day.  She'll have three more shots at it in the heightened part of the season, making the record the most vulnerable in the state.
